(CHEROKEE) - Leaders of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation say they want to take a gamble on poker games, if they can get the state to agree. With the craze for the card game spreading, Harrah's Cherokee Casino wants to add poker tables in the coming months.

This is really just a general poker tip, but it still nabs even the poker pros at times. At Party Poker, if you find that you are being outplayed, outclassed or just unlucky at the table, it's ok to leave. Don't think about getting your money back or getting revenge on the bastard that rivered you for the 3rd time now. If you are losing money at your table, you do NOT have good table image no matter what you might think. Not only are you not in a good mood, which puts you on tilt (admit it or not), but other players will be more likely to make plays against you. This makes your game harder in more ways than you want. With so many tables at Party Poker, just get up and go, it's that easy.

PARTYPOKER CALLS IT
QUITS.
okay I lied, but here's some real poker news...
The very mention of poker evokes images of middle-aged men, cigars, and five-card stud. Not anymore. More and more people are playing, as Susan McGinnis reports in the second in a series on The Early Show ."
Some best-selling gifts this season are poker-related accessories. But as The Early Show correspondent Tracy Smith found out, it's hardly just adults trying to gauge when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em. And that's causing concern.

The rule of four-two, as I like to call it, is an easier way to figure the odds for any situation where you know your outs. It is not completely accurate but it will give you a quick "ballpark" figure of your chances for making a hand. Here is how it works.
With two cards to come after the flop you multiply your number of outs by four. With one card to come after the turn, you multiply your number of outs by two. This will give you a quick figure to work with. If you have a four-card flush after the flop you have nine outs. With two cards to come, you multiply the nine by four and you get 36 percent chance of making the flush. The chart shows the true odds at 35 percent. With one card to come you multiply nine by two and get 18 percent. The chart shows that the true figure is 19.6. It is not completely accurate but it is pretty close, and it is an easy calculation to do in your head.

Scroll to the bottom of the history and you can instantly find out what the other player was holding. I normally do this in conjunction with player notes, to get me a good idea of what a player is willing to play with on a river. Showdown information is always the most critical, as you can analyze their decision making process from the ground up.

Usually I write about hold ’em in this column. Limit hold ’em, pot-limit, no-limit — it’s all the rage as poker-palooza sweeps the country. But today the game is razz, and here’s why: No matter the brand of poker, you have to read people as much as you read cards, maybe more so.

This tip applies not only to Party Poker but many other poker rooms out there too. There's a reason poker sites offer four color decks, because they are quite popular and for good reason. If you play poker long enough, you're going to make mistakes. Everyone who has played long enough has probably misread their cards at some point or another (usually after a long stretch), especially flushes. Using a four colored deck makes it much easier to identify flushes (and more importantly flush draw threats) and enables you to use your brain powers elsewhere.

* How it works: Contestant pays a set amount to enter tournament, is given a set number of chips with no monetary value and competes with other poker players at Texas Hold 'Em. Winners determined by the player that ends up with all chips at a table.
The less hands you play, the more money you will keep. This doesn't just go for tournaments but for poker in general. Play only the best possible hands you can! Meaning, only play the hands that will give you the best return on your investment.

Damn, how busy are retail stores getting? I went into Fry's Electronics to pick-up a new LCD screen for a friend. Soon everyone will have a set of chips, we'll never have a shortage again.

Bodog.com Sports Casino Poker ™ has released odds on who will win the World Poker Tour Five Diamond World Poker Classic at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
This isn't as much a trick as it is advice. The $5 sit and go tournaments on Party Poker are cheap, but at a price. With a $1 entry fee, this amounts to a 20% rake, which is no light task to beat. If you are good enough to win enough $5 tournaments that you can beat this rake, you are good enough to be playing at the $10 tournaments. There really is no difference between the two; and in my opinion, the $10 tournaments might even be easier because you don't get filled out tables of nothing but calling stations. Try as you might and throw the book of poker at me, but there almost nothing humanly possible you can do at an entire table of maniacs or calling stations. The game makes more sense at $10 and even more sense at $30.

This is what the City of Champions has been reduced to: hockey-starved sports fans gathered in bars around big-screen TVs watching people play cards. "I can't believe how many people show up here to watch poker tournaments now," said a gloomy Doug Munro, co-owner of Mo's Sports Bar, 5420 Calgary Tr.
This tip is probably debatable by many of the players out there. In my opinion, unless you know what you are doing, this tactic will save you money in the long run by letting you not only get mentally prepared for the game, but also gives you invalable time to evaluate your opponents. The worst thing that can happen is to get dealt a strong hand early and then get caught in a massive raising war between two players you don't know. They could be two maniacs for sure, but what if one of them is a maniac and the other player is super-tight? Most likely, that super tight player is holding the nuts while you are bumbling by with top pair or two pair. Not a good move. So be patient, take notes in the meanwhile and save money in the long run.
