COWBOYS FIRST ROUND PICK IS EVERYWARE!

Demarcus Ware made quite a splash last night in his initial “prime time NFL appearance” and coach Bill Parcells just may have another Lawrence Taylor on his hands, which is bad news for opposing quarterbacks.



The 11th round pick in the first round out of Troy State in Alabama, Ware is making the switch from defensive end to outside linebacker in the Cowboys 3-4 defensive scheme.

He had two tackles last week against Arizona, but made an impact in just two minutes against Seattle (1-1). Still, he received little praise from his coach, Parcells, who is always raising the bar, when it comes to his special players.

On Seattle's first possession, Ware beat Pro Bowl guard Steve Hutchinson, stripped quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and fell on the fumble at the Seattle 33. Cortez then made his first field goal.

Late in the first quarter, Ware showed his ability in pass coverage. After Hasselbeck had connected with tight end Jerramy Stevens on consecutive plays, Ware dived in front of Stevens, corralling the interception. Ware said it was his first interception ever.

Late in the first half, Ware made perhaps his most athletic play. With reserve quarterback Seneca Wallace scrambling out of the pocket toward open field, Ware dived and jarred the ball from Wallace's right hand, knocking the fumble out of bounds.

A couple of things were very evident in last night’s contest and the most obvious was the potential of Seattle’s tight end Stevens. At 6 ft. “7” tall he must be the tallest at his position in the league and he is going to have a huge year in Mike Holmgren’s offense. H caught 31 balls last year and had 4 last night and he should snare 70-80 balls this year.

Rookie quarterbacks in the NFL struggle, so fans of Alex Smith with San Francisco or David Greene’s of Seattle had better prepare themselves for the worst. The former Georgia Bulldog Greene was awful last night and the speed of the NFL game, is too much for him to handle.

Several teams like Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers and Cleveland with Charlie Frye are considering using these rookies as their backup quarterbacks once the season begins. I will predict right now, that if Brett Farve gets injured and they throw Rodgers to the wolves, the Packers will sink fast!

In preseason these youngsters are struggling and they are not even getting the defense’s best effort. When defensive coordinators game plan for a week, prior to a regular season, they put in some highly complex coverage’s and that spells trouble!

Ware looked really good Monday night, and it's really hard for me to say that being a staunch Eagles fan, and thus avid Cowboy hater. Obviously way too early to draw comparisons to a player of Lawrence Taylor's stature, but the press will write grandios comments like that in order to draw attention to themselves and sell more papers. As long as we all understand that, Ware more then anyone else, it's fine.

I see the NFC East finally beginning to resurrect itself from the 4/5 year slumber it's been in. As good as the Eagles have been in the last 5 years, the rest of the NFC East has been conversely as bad. If the Redskins could ever pull themselves off their backs, we could get back to some really awesome rivalry's like we had in the 80's/90's.
