Cheating On-line In Poker
Cheating at Online Poker! Have you seen this ad online?
This is being sold as “No Rules Poker” on the internet. It has a beautifully written ad which stopped me in my tracks when I read it. It told how I could see my opponents cards, just as I see my cards on the screen. What a deal that is. I will be able to know what my opponents hole cards are! I read the ad again (it was quite long). I’ve been around too long to believe what the ad said, and moved on. A few days later I came across a forum post of a customer of the above ad. He was so angry he posted the whole damn package for anyone’s viewing. And boy, did I laugh. I read it in less than an hour. It is such bullsh**. Let me give you a summary of it's contents: Part one: pertains to "collusion". Nothing I didn't know already. The author is talking about you and your buddy playing the same SNG and are on the phone telling each other their hole cards. Part two included some info on a Poker bot that you can buy somewhere else. I have no idea if that idea is realistic. I did go to the site and read another well written, and long, ad on poker-bots. A poker bot is a program that will allow a “robot” to play, and win, without you being there. Hmmmmm!. Part three was some 1st class real bullsh** regarding "linguistics". He gives examples of using the chat to influence what your opponent does. Totally bogus. Part Three: pertains to installing a program, and get it onto your opponents computer. You have to, at the minimum get his password, user name, ISP, etc.; and I'm not sure if the rest of the computer oriented stuff would work if you could even get that info. He gives a money back guarantee. I can't see anyone being happy or finding this useful. What an entrepreneur the author is though. He's written an advertisement that grabs people's attention. I'm sure he's made a bundle of money. I'm glad I didn't buy. I would have been requesting my money back. How long do you think I would have to wait????? I'm embarrassed that I gave this ad the attention I did. I’d like to hear from others on their thoughts/interaction/experiences regarding the above product. Citytom www.pokerchipsvideo.com |

I don't believe I've seen this particular ad but I have run across plenty of similar garbage programs. It really amazes me how just about any time you search for anything reguarding poker online, some of the search results will be titled "cheat at online poker".
Honestly I don't feel too bad for the people who get ripped off buying these. It is one thing to buy a legitimate program that you think will help you improve your game but buying a program to cheat is flat out wrong in my opinion. I play poker to win money for sure, but I wouldn't feel right cheating to win. Its an old saying but it applies here as well, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Report these scam artists and maybe if enough of them get busted online poker will get cleaned up a little. |

In my personal opinion, cheating is going to happen in online poker. Whether the cheating will actually by carried out by the actual poker site, is pretty hard to believe. An online poker site like Party Poker may have some problems, but I'm sure even they know that rigging the deck would be the absolute worst thing they could do to shoot themselves in the foot. There already exist a number of poker programs out there like Poker Tracker that are able to monitor hand histories on the poker sites with an incredible amount of detail. I'm sure some sophisticated players who have the capability have written their own poker tools for that matter.

From reading the forums over most poker sites these days, it seems that many poker players are worried about the possibility of cheating in online poker. There's been a lot of talk about the popular poker sites like Party Poker, Poker Stars and others rigging the deck. The reason the sites rig the decks, is explained away as a business decision, in order to make the sites more money in rake or to give new players artificial luck, so they get sucked into the site.
What these programs can do, is create databases of games that occur on the poker site, which can then be statistically run through to look for inconsistencies. Although most players would never play enough to make a case for statistical deviance, professional players would definitely notice strange deviations in deck shuffles, draws and and other details with their trackers. For instance, to hit a flush draw with two of your suit on the flop, the probability is about 35% from the flop to the river. In essence, the chance of the board having three to a suit fall is around 35%. Through tracking software, one can easily notice over 10,000 hands (what a professional probably plays in a month) any deviations in flushes. If flushes are falling 36% of the time, that's probably just a random blip. 37% and that's a big blip. If we get near 40% then there's definitely something to be looked into. Seeing how a pro player would have a database easily reaching into the hundreds of thousands of hands, they would definitely be able to judge the randomness of the deck (if they were technically able to run reports against their own data). But so far, I haven't heard any reports of any bad deck dealing that has solid fact backing. That's not to say that there isn't, but the chances are unlikely.
