No I haven’t broken my leg falling off the Denver Nugget bandwagon as the rocky mountain team fell to 0-2 in the young NBA season last night. Needles to say assistant Scott Brooks head coaching career is on hold as the Nugget’s assistant failed to garner a win, while he replaced the suspended George Karl.
Denver will be fine once Karl kicks their asses around the practice floor a few times and hopefully they get some return on the $29 million they gave free agent guard Earl Watson. Losing Nene is not going to be easy to overcome, but at 10-1 I like their chances still!
In the East though we are going to give you a real gem and they have bolted out of the gates to a 2-0 start, with wins on the road at Philly and New Jersey and that would be the Milwaukee Bucks. Believe it or not Terry Stotts is not new to the league in fact he coached the Atlanta Hawks from 2002-2004 and that is probably why I never knew who this guy was.
He has resurfaced in a much better scenario now as head of the Bucks and the pieces are falling nicely into place, for a serious run at the Central Division in the Eastern Conference. Now please give me a minute to explain as your picking yourself up off the floor where you’re laughing your face off. Yes I know that’s the division with Scott Skiles Bull’s, Flip Saunders Pistons and Ron Artest and the Pacers.
What about King James and the Cavaliers you ask?
Sorry folks, I love this Bucks team and now I’m going to tell you why! T. J. Ford has returned to the NBA after 20 months away from the game, due to a nasty spill he took in a game two years ago. Whether it be high school in Houston, or college at Texas, this guy wins! They have an emerging star in Maurice Williams who played his college ball at Alabama and now enters his third NBA season.
Up front they have a ton of size with Joe Smith, Dan Gadzuric and Ervin Johnson to backup number one overall pick Andrew Bogut. In his first two games the rookie is averaging 11 points and 13 boards per game and has looked like a seasoned veteran.
Superstar Michael Redd has been spectacular and former DePaul star and the NBA’s Most Improved Player award winner last year, is a huge addition.
The three players though that I feel will put this team over the top is former New Orleans all star Jamal Magliore, veteran Tony Kukoc and Czech Republic born Jiri Welsch. Don’t be concerned with the anticipated slow start of Magliore’s as he has had a tumultuous offseason. Once he finds a house and get settled in, this Canadian will be a stud.
Stott’s finally has the horses and the former George Karl protégé will be the talk of the first half of the season. This team will have 25 wins by the all star break and you can take that to the bank!
