Well, i arrived on Wednesday March 23, 2005 to the capitol of the gambling world....(well, in my eyes)....
and straight to Binions it was....
me, my friend and his fiancee, rolled in so excited to be at the home of the WSOP once again....
We all eventually find ourselves at the same table (which is great, coz we love to be able to yip yap with one another, especially since the 1 lady with us wouldnt wanna be at a table all by her lonesome getting harassed by dirty old men....LOL)....
anyways, we seem to be playing with a host of regulars at Binions and the table is a fairly tight table....
Later on a few new comers join in and the table loosened up a lil (as far as talk and play)....
I end up battling it out with my friend fiancee and end up taking a huge pot from her where she had trip Q's on the flop but i was sitting with a flush draw (ace high) and had to pay the small fee to catch my card, which i eventually did.....
She was not very happy with the end results (especially since i took 3 large pots from her, where she had trips all 3 times,....that was a doozie, coz i ended up treating her to a fat dinner at mon ami gabi later that evening)....
anyhoot, somehow the players at binions knew that the 3 of us were from California (los angeles specifically, coz that's what they said).....
they said that our aggressive play gave it away and that well, "we could tell you are from LA"......go figure...
so the 3 of us end up leaving binions after about 4-5 hours having almost tripled each of our stacks.....(despite the heavy loss by the fiancee at the hands of me, :( )
then we headed over to check in our room at the aladdin....
and then jumped right into the poker room there also....
i'd love to give some great stories about the aladdin, but its poker room just DID NOT treat me well at all....
the first nite, i'm at the 3-6 tables and i'm sitting on a pair of 1's.....
im under the gun and i raise the bet to 6bucks, the guy is spot 5 raises it to 9 bucks, then everyone folds to the button who raises to 12 bucks (there is a 5 bet limit at aladdin),...
small blind calls, big blind calls and i re-raise to cap it at 15 bucks....
so now there are 5 folks in the hand (at $15.- each, that's already $75 in the pot)...
anyhoot, the flop was some raggedy stuff Q 2 4 or something to that effect.....
small and big check to me, i bet $3.-....
position 5 raises to $6.- and button just calls, small blind and big blind fold and i re-raise to $9.-....
position 5 re-raises to $12.- and the button continues to call.....
okay, to make this lengthy story short....
position 5 had a QK, the button had 4 7 and i had 1's....
the ensuing board was Q 2 4 9 7...
the button stayed in all the way only to win a HUGE pot with 4 7 off suit, giving him 2 pair....
this was the type of luck i faced all the time at aladdin, and my depressive state of losing continued for the remainder of the weekend.....
i asked the player if it was normal for him to play 4 7, since i felt he had no bizness calling the raises and re-raises with such a fantastic starting hand....
but all in all, he had the winning hand and i have to try and forget about it....
this is the last i mention about this hand, and i will try and convince myself that folks like this will eventually pay me off in the long run and that my play was smart and well played.....
that's it for now,
MAY THE FLOP BE WITH YOU,
